I'm Back!

Welcome me back to blogging :) Not sure how regularly I'll be posting but it sure feels nice to have time to jot some thoughts down.

Today's discoveries:

1. A round rainbow encircling the sun is called a solar halo (thanks Rene for this trivia!). I saw one while looking out the car window this morning along Ayala Ave.

Isn't it pretty? Even magical. It's supposed to be pretty rare.

2. Oakley service center will repair Oakley shades FOR FREE if no parts need to be replaced (i.e. in our case, the frame on one side got slightly bent) and it was repaired in just a few minutes. We didn't have any warranty documents but it was still accommodated :)

3. Passport renewal doesn't need to be painful! Here are a couple of tips:
  • Set an appointment using the online system (www.passport.com.ph). It's pretty intuitive. The ideal timing to renew one's passport is 6 months before its expiry date. We set the appointment 1.5 weeks before our preferred schedule. During peak season (not sure when that is...), I heard you might need to set it at least 1-2 months in advance!
  • Make sure you arrive on time which is 30 mins before your schedule - and at the right venue! The office is now located at Macapagal Ave. cor. Bradco St., Aseana Business Park. It's beside an S&R.
  • Have all requirements with you already. NSO copies are easy to obtain online (https://www.ecensus.com.ph/Secure/frmIndex.asp). Also don't forget to photocopy your requirements beforehand - they do have a photocopier inside but the line is pretty long. Plus don't be fooled by the sneaky people claiming that you need to bring a passport-sized picture (and of course they're offering their photo services for a fee) -- your picture will be taken inside.
  • If you have upcoming travel plans and the new passport might not be ready before your departure, you can request to keep your old passport first. Just write a letter explaining the reason for your request and attach your e-ticket/details. If you do this, you cannot have your new passport delivered. Instead you will need to personally return to the DFA office (they will give you an appointment schedule) in order to surrender your old passport and pick up your new one. They will invalidate your old passport and return that to you.
  • Even though you have an appointment, there will still be a line so bring a book to help you pass the time :)
4. Sadly not everything from S&R is fresh. I bought some mangosteen and none were edible :( I wonder if I can get a refund?
  • Update: S&R agreed to exchange them for a different item. Yay!
5. Last but not the least...I've managed to acquire a lot of books. From Sweet Valley Kids and Nancy Drew to classics and romance novels. I need more space so I might sell or give some of them away...

5 discoveries :) Not bad for my 1st day back!
