ICAn stars in Award Winning Musical - Hairspray Nov 28

The acting bug bit her when she was in the 7th grade. Madel's love for performing in the shower prompted her to try out for the Children's Theater club. Since then, she hasn't looked back. In High School, she became a member of the prestigious Dramatics Guild (DG) where she learned to love theater in its entirety - helping out as prod, being a performer, and feeling fulfilled during curtain calls. With such deeply-rooted passion, it's not hard to imagine how much energy she brings with her on stage.

In college, her story continues. She joined Ateneo Blue Reportory and was part of the High School Musical production. That was her opportunity to work with Ma'am Chari (Arespacochaga) who encouraged her to take voice lessons and audition for the role of Tracy Turnblad. Madel recounts, "It really was my first professional audition, so...It really took a lot of courage for me to try out pero naisip ko, hey, if I don't get the part, it'll be a learning experience. Luckily, nakuha ko naman!"

Madel's why-not attitude makes it easy for her to relate with her character's positivity and spirit. She especially connects with Tracy's belief in a small-town girl's ability to make big-time changes. And no wonder - she's iCAN.

Madel Ching (ICA 2006) will be starring as Tracy Turnblad in the award-winning Broadway musical, Hairspray.
